We Learn and Grow together with Jesus

Year 5

Year 5 have been learning about the Victorians and Coding this term, so it seemed appropriate to spend Science Week looking at the contributions of Ada Lovelace, a Victorian woman credited with creating the world's first algorithm. In English, pupils spent the week expanding their descriptive sentences about Ada and finally writing an email to her explaining how they use computers today. The week wouldn't be complete without a bit of coding; pupils learnt the complications of writing instructions for even the simplest of tasks, and then they tried coding simulations and working out how to debug their own algorithms. Finally, pupils were exposed to the ultimate piece of coding, DNA. They extracted DNA from strawberries in one very quick and easy science demonstration.
