TEACHING OTHER FAITHS

At St Benedict's, we recognise that many pupils will not be from Catholic families. As such, we encourage a culture of dialogue through the teaching of other faiths.

Come and See

Currently in Autumn term, children study Judaism.  Each year group concentrates on a different area such as: the Synagogue, Shabbat, Hanukkah and the Passover.  We support this learning through visits from Anne Angel who delivers workshops to each class.

Moving forward, all year groups will study Judaism in the Summer term which will enable a consistent and whole school approach where their learning is in line with the new Religious Education Programme.

Currently in Summer term, Key Stage 2 study Hinduism, Islam and Sikhism on a 3 year rotation. We have tailored our curriculum to meet the needs of our own pupils by giving prevalence to Islam in recent years, as we have a number of Muslim children in our school.

Moving forward, this will be studied in earlier in the year to allow for the study of Judaism in the Summer term.

To Know You More Clearly

EYFS and Key Stage 1 now follow the new Religious Education programme, 'To Know You More Clearly'. As part of this programme, these year groups study Judaism in the Summer term, as well as discussing and learning about other religious festivals and celebrations as they occur throughout the year.
