The Season of Creation is a global celebration of prayer and action to protect our common home.

This is similar to the main priorities of Laudato Si'.

The theme for 2024 is:

What is it?

The Season of Creation is a time of sustained prayer and action which lasts a month and 4 days.

The World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation is celebrated on September 1st (Sunday this year) and kick starts the Season of Creation. The Season of Creation ends on October 4th which is the feast of St Francis of Assisi.

During this time, we are encouraged to pray and engage in community events so as to deepen our relationship with God, our neighbour and the earth we share, being ever more attentive to the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.

doing in school?

At St Benedict's we have signed up to take part and show our solidarity in the Season of Creation. Here are some ways that will show that we are relating to the Earth as a gift from our Creator:

  • Prayer and Liturgy sessions with the Season of Creation (To hope and act with creation) being the theme (Parents and members of our Parish community will be invited to come in and join classes for these).
  • Litter picking (This is also one of our Live Simply local actions too!)
  • Going for a walk at Amberswood to reflect upon the beauty of nature.
  • Planting flowers.

What can you do at home?

Here are some ways that will show that you are also relating to the Earth as a gift from our Creator:

  • Say prayers at home with your children to thank God for His creations.
  • When out and about, ensure your rubbish is put in the bin (take it home and put it in the bin if there are no available bins where you are).
  • Going for a walk at Amberswood or Haigh Hall to reflect upon the beauty of nature.
  • Planting flowers and gardening with your child.
  • Feeding the birds and squirrels in your garden.
  • Make a bug house to look after God's creatures, great and small.
